As we approach the end of 2023, we at Lynch Family of Dealerships want to ensure you’re aware of the significant tax advantages available to businesses that invest in vehicles before the year concludes.

The Section 179 tax deduction is a fantastic opportunity for small business owners to potentially reduce their tax burden by thousands of dollars. This deduction allows eligible businesses to deduct the cost of machinery and qualifying equipment, including vehicles, when filing their taxes.

At Lynch, we offer a wide range of vehicles across our various locations that qualify for the Section 179 deduction. Whether you’re looking for a Chevrolet, GMC, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, RAM, Ford, or a commercial vehicle from Chevrolet, GMC, HINO, & Isuzu, we’ve got you covered.

Here’s a quick breakdown of how the Section 179 tax deduction applies to different types of vehicles:

  • Light Section 179 Vehicles: Vehicles with a manufacturer’s gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) under 6,000 pounds. For 2023, these autos have a Section 179 tax deduction limit of $12,200 in the first year they are used.
  • Heavy Section 179 Vehicles: Vehicles with at least 6,000 pounds GVWR but no more than 14,000 pounds. For 2023, a vehicle qualifying in the “heavy” category has a Section 179 tax deduction limit of $28,900.
  • Other Section 179 Vehicles: Any vehicle with a GVWR over 14,000 pounds or a vehicle modified for nonpersonal use. For 2023, any vehicle meeting these guidelines is not subject to a Section 179 tax deduction limitation. You may deduct up to 100% of the cost of any vehicle falling into this category.

Remember, the vehicle must be purchased and put into use in the same year to qualify for the deduction. Even if you use your vehicle partially for personal use, you may still be able to take advantage of a Section 179 tax deduction, as long as the vehicle is operated more than 50% for business use.

As we near the end of the year, now is the perfect time to consider investing in a new or used vehicle for your business. Not only will you be adding a valuable asset to your company, but you could also significantly reduce your tax burden.

Our team at Lynch Family of Dealerships is ready and eager to help you find the perfect vehicle to suit your business needs. Visit us at any of our locations in Burlington, Mukwonago, Kenosha, West Bend, or Waterford.

Please note that while we’re here to help you find the perfect vehicle, we recommend consulting with a tax professional to understand how the Section 179 deduction applies to your specific situation.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to invest in your business and save on your taxes. Visit a Lynch dealership today!

Electric vehicles have come a long way since the first electric car release of the Roadster in 2008 by Tesla. Electric vehicles (EVs) have a battery instead of a gas tank and a motor instead of an engine. EVs can be either fully or partially powered by electricity, whether there is a hybrid option on a specific vehicle. Because EVs use rechargeable batteries to move, they actually accelerate faster than gas powered vehicles. This is why many people feel that EVs drive lighter in comparison to fuel vehicles.

As technology advances, more car manufacturers are adding more electric vehicles to their fleets. In fact, by the year 2024, over 3 dozen new battery electric vehicles (BEVs) are set to release to the public. In addition, it has also been challenged that over half of all fleets in the auto industry be electric by 2030. Although technology advances quickly, too rapid of an expansion could make it difficult for the consumer to keep up with upcoming products, trends, and changes.

Why Electric Vehicles?

Years ago, there were only a limited number of electric vehicles on the market, but now there are many more. Today there are over 300 different EV models from various manufacturers all over the world, which is a 40% increase since 2019. This being said, with there being more vehicles to choose from, there are now definitely more affordable options so that more car buyers can easily choose to go electric.

Regardless of your reason for going electric, whether you’re an environmentalist, former gas guzzler, or an up-to-date technologist, today’s EVs provide more than ever before. More car buyers are choosing electric vehicles because of their impressive efficiency, performance, and lower overall costs. By 2040, many car companies aim for all of their sales to be zero-emissions EVs..

Charging Stations

Many people who drive gas-powered vehicles are worried whether the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles is mature enough to support their daily needs and travel habits, and while this may be a valid concern, there are charging stations all over. Within the continental United States alone, there are over 50,000 publicly available EV chargers. This includes in big cities and small towns, which don’t even take private charging stations within people’s homes or small businesses that can be used.

Upcoming EV in GMC, Lexus, Honda, and GM

This year, even more news on electric vehicles has been released to the public. Recently, the 2022 GMC Hummer EV had its first test drive review. This is huge because the Hummer is known for lower gas mileage, so having an electric option will definitely turn some heads. In addition, the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) has been working hard to ensure that all defective and overused batteries are checked and recalled by auto manufacturers. This includes over 140,000 vehicles covered by the NHTSA.

The 2023 Lexus RZ electric SUV will also be revealed to the public on April 20th, 2022. This will be a huge step for Lexus because one of their long term goals is to be all-electric by 2030. Lastly, Honda and General Motors plan to make the most powerful electric vehicles powered with Ultium batteries through working together with Sony. This collaboration will help both companies revamp their preexisting models into electrically powered vehicles for the future. The two companies plan to have a variety of EVs using GM’s Ultium battery by 2027.

Our Reconditioning Process

Every used vehicle that is either traded or sold to our dealership must go through a list of 22 steps before it can be sold again to another customer. These steps include: checking that all restraining devices, seats and headrests work properly and are present, repairing any fluid leaks, checking brake friction on brake pads and brake shoes, testing the battery and replacing if needed, checking for a spare tire, wheel, and spare tire equipment, and checking the air conditioning system is at a proper charge level and works correctly.

In addition, this process includes replacing any loose steering, suspension parts, and wiper blades, changing the oil, filter, engine and cabin air filters (if needed), leveling off fluids and changing if needed, checking the treads on all tires, changing fuel filters and topping off DEF fluid on diesels, performing recalls prior to vehicle sale, deleting all prior personal or GPS data, erasing universal garage openers, checking all lights to ensure functionality, removing any wheel locks and installing lugnuts in their place, and finally disclosing aftermarket modification of parts, window tint (and making sure it is a legal amount), repairs not performed on window stickers, and any frame or unibody damage.

In addition to this, there are some great ways to make this long process a little easier on car buyers…

10 Game-changers

  1. Research the car you want (or at least have a general idea)
  2. Research the value of your current vehicle (Kelly Blue Book is a great option)
  3. Compare competitive dealer prices
  4. Check out current promotions
  5. Gather all necessary documents prior to stepping food in the dealership
  6. Ask lots of questions to the salesmen
  7. Contact any of our Finance Centers about loan approval
  8. Look at online expert and consumer reviews
  9. Take a thorough test drive
  10. Investigate or inspect the vehicles you are seeing

In addition to these 10 tips, there are two more things to remember when going through the car buying process. One, always remember to read everything thoroughly and ask questions before you sign, there is a lot of information in these documents and it is important to know what everything means. And two, enjoy the experience. Test driving fun vehicles, looking at different models and colors, and knowing that you’re going home in a new car should be a great feeling, so make sure to not let the stress take away from the experience.
