The difference between Compressed Air and Nitrogen in TiresCompressed air - the traditional medium for tire inflation - contains both nitrogen and oxygen molecules. A tire is essentially a rubber membrane through which these molecules permeate. Unfortunately, oxygen leaks up to 4 times faster than nitrogen in tires. Unlike oxygen, nitrogen in tires does not oxidize the tire rubber compounds, causing deterioration from the inside out. Regular compressed air is also typically prone to condensation, foreign particles, and other contaminants that can cause further deterioration to the rubber compounds, rim and valve stem core. If all this leakage, oxidation, and deterioration goes unchecked, under inflation occurs which creates a host of problems such as excessive tire wear, reduced gas mileage, or worse... the risk of dangerous blow-outs. Nitrogen is a clean, inert gas that comprises 78% of the air we breathe. Not only is nitrogen for tires abundantly available, it's also a safe, more beneficial alternative to regular compressed air. Consider using nitrogen for your car tires. |
