A Step Back in Time to the beginning
of Lynch Dealerships of Wisconsin
The
connection between cars and the Lynch family can be traced back
to the post-World War II era in Milwaukee.
John Lynch, Sr., a pilot in the Army Air Corps, and his wife Elinor
settled in Milwaukee following John's discharge in 1945. Their neighbor
at the time was Murel Humphrey, the owner of Humphrey Chevrolet
dealership, who offered John the opportunity to drive a parts truck
and sell car parts throughout the state of Wisconsin. That job offer
was John Lynch's introduction to the automobile business.
John Lynch took advantage of his opportunities at Humphrey and
quickly progressed through the ranks. In 1955, Humphrey bought the
Union Chevrolet dealership in Burlington, Wisconsin with the stipulation
that in 10 years the dealership must be sold to the operating manager,
Herman "Red" Buelow. Buelow relocated to Sheboygan and
asked John Lynch, Sr. to take over in the position, buy 25% of the
dealership and assume the eventual purchase in 1965.
First expansion with the addition of Pontiac
John expanded the dealership in 1958 with the addition of new and
used Pontiac cars and began facing the challenge of financing the
purchase of the dealership.
At that time John's son, David, and the oldest of eight Lynch children,
was attending college in Minnesota but worked for the Lavelle Rubber
Co. in Burlington during the summers. David's former boss, Bob Sullivan,
Sr., offered a solution for the Lynch family.
"He wrote me a check for $7,500," David Lynch said. "He
said, 'You pay me back when you can. You guys deserve this dealership."
John Lynch Chevrolet Pontiac Sales, Inc.
So, in 1965, John Lynch, Sr. and his son David, now company president,
became owners of a dealership they called John Lynch Chevrolet Pontiac
Sales, Inc. and began selling new and used cars to customers throughout
the southeastern Milwaukee area.
And so began the Lynch family business that has continued to grow
through the generations. Since 1965, the dealership has also continued
to expand and diversify with the purchase of additional property
and the addition of multiple vehicle lines. |
